Personal statement
Working as a potter for the past 25 years has a been both a career choice and recreational pursuit. There probably aren’t many lifestyles that can make such a claim but for those who work in clay it is pretty common. It has been a blessing to be able to continue doing what I love to do. My work is completely different now from what it was when I started out which is a result of always learning something new and evolving. Currently I’ve been exploring texture. The basic goal hasn’t changed which is to realize my potential and keep it fresh which takes an occasional reinventing. Other pursuits that parallel pottery have been artist-in-residencies at regional schools This has been extremely satisfying to be able to possibly nurture a few young minds to try and achieve their own potential.
Working as a clay artist hasn’t always been consistently my major interest but after playing around with some other mediums (while still keeping up pottery production) I’ve come back to clay with as much excitement as ever. I still see clay as an inexhaustible medium.
